Fighting Back Against Elon and President

The past few weeks have been stressful for so many across our community, and I want to start by reassuring you I share your concerns. I’m fighting every day against the extremism that threatens our democracy, our rights, and our future.

Whether it’s Donald Trump’s dangerous agenda, Elon Musk’s overreach, or Congressional Republicans’ relentless attacks on our freedoms, I refuse to stand by while they put their own power and profits ahead of the American people. Now more than ever, we need leaders who will stand up, speak out, and take action—and that’s exactly what I’m here to do.

Many of the actions taken by the Trump Administration so far are illegal and have already been blocked by the courts . This includes his blatantly unconstitutional effort to undermine 14^th Amendment birthright citizenship and his freezing of federal dollars . This is a trend we’ll continue to see.

I am grateful to hear from so many Denverites who are sharing their concerns during this challenging time. Federal employees worried about their personal information being compromised, organizations struggling without critical grant funding, and immigrants—regardless of status—living in fear all deserve to know they are not alone. Through calls, letters, and meetings with community leaders , you are making your voices heard. I want you to know I hear you, and I am fighting back against this illegal assault on our freedoms.

All of us are shocked Trump has allowed Elon Musk, an unelected billionaire, to make these decisions and to run rampant among the Executive branch.

Rest assured, I am working closely with my colleagues here in Congress, our Colorado Attorney General, and outside groups to support the lawsuits that will protect our communities.

And even though the Democrats are in the minority in Congress, we are fighting back around the clock, especially in our committees.

Last week, the Health Subcommittee, where I serve as the top Democrat, held its first hearing. Although this hearing was put together by House Republicans who hold the Majority, I took this opportunity to unveil the truth about what’s going on — Elon Musk has shown massive overreach by pushing for direct access to our Medicare and Medicaid systems.

House Republicans should be outraged, not silent. Their inaction and complicity speak volumes.

With the latest budget deadline looming in just a few weeks, Democrats in the House will not vote for cuts to our essential programs, like Medicare and Medicaid, and we will demand the restoration of the grants and expenditures that were already approved in previous Congresses.

Republicans will once again attempt to raise the debt ceiling to give tax cuts to billionaires and corporations. But we cannot and will not let this happen.
