With its recent barrage of Executive Orders and administrative actions, the Trump administration is attacking the right to think, teach, question, study, learn, and research. This includes attacks on the rights of immigrant students and workers including deportations; erasing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs, including curriculum and books; dismantling the U.S. Department of Education; threatening resources for students with disabilities and students living in poverty; defunding education research; and undermining academic freedom and freedom of speech.
As 10,000 education researchers from across the country gather in Denver for the American Educational Research Association annual meeting April 23-27, educators, students, and researchers from Denver and across the country will rally at the Capitol and take a stand to protect K-12 public education, higher education, and research. The rally will be held on Friday, April 25, 10am-11am, at the Colorado State Capitol, 200 E Colfax, Denver, CO.
This rally follows and is in solidarity with several recent protests to defend education and immigrant rights in Denver and Colorado, joins local struggles with the national political context, and is built with educators and activists who have organized in Florida, Texas and throughout the country and world to defend education.
Join with Denver community allies, and educators, students, researchers, and activists from across the United States. This is not an official event of the American Educational Research Association and has no affiliation with the organization.
Speakers will include Denver organizers and educators, and researchers and representatives from K-12 and higher education unions across the country impacted by attacks on education.
