U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (N.M.-02) recently announced that he secured $4 million in funding for the Atrisco Vista Boulevard Improvement Project that will increase public safety and bring 13,000 jobs to the area. In June 2023, Vasquez visited the site alongside Bernalillo County Commission Chair Barbara Baca to discuss the potential impact it can have on the community.

“Securing funding for the reconstruction of Atrisco Vista Boulevard will help accelerate the project to not only bring 13,000 more jobs, but also to improve public safety and vital infrastructure,” said Vasquez. “This funding is not just about fixing roads; it’s about building stronger communities on the West Side so New México’s families can thrive.”

“Atrisco Vista Boulevard improvements will allow for positive economic activity that will bring more jobs and future housing opportunities to the West Side and reduce river crossings,” said Bernalillo County Commission Chair Barbara Baca.

“Bernalillo County is grateful to Rep. Gabe Vasquez and Sen. Martin Heinrich for their support. This earmark will assist the county in accelerating our much-needed reconstruction project on Atrisco Vista Boulevard by one to two years,” said Bernalillo County Manager Julie Morgas Baca. “These funds will be added to existing federal and state funds to complete the $11.8 million project which is a priority for both safety and an emerging economic development corridor on the West Side.”

For the first time since this funding was made available, New México’s second congressional district is benefiting from these federal investments. The projects Vasquez fought for prioritize public safety, bringing good-paying jobs to the district, supporting families and ensuring access to clean water and improved wastewater systems.
